The Prazeres - Jardim do Mar trail is (as of Spring 2026) officially closed, but you can get through. However, it is partly overgrown and slippery (after rain, water sometimes flowed down like a little stream). Good footwear required.

Porto Moniz is a small coastal town on Madeira's northwestern tip, particularly known for its spectacular natural pools carved into the lava rock. Along the promenade, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll by the Atlantic, watch the crashing surf, and stop at one of the cafes. The combination of rugged cliffs, natural pools, and the tranquil atmosphere makes Porto Moniz a worthwhile stop on your tour.

Porto Moniz, in the far north of Madeira, is one of those places that mesmerize. Between dramatic mountains and a serene ocean, it reveals itself in green Laurissilva trails, natural pools carved by lava, and parishes that seem to have stepped out of an old postcard. This is also the starting point of the 115-kilometer Madeira Island Ultra Trail.
