Although Zarrentin on Lake Schaalsee is a very quiet and peaceful place, strange stories surround the body of water. How the whitefish came to Lake Schaalsee... the devil with the whitefish reminds us of this. Legend has it that an abbess from the monastery had an appetite for a whitefish dish. The devil offered to fetch her whitefish from Lake Constance. He was supposed to be back by midnight and, in return, would receive her soul. But as soon as the devil left, the abbess's guilty conscience wouldn't leave her alone, and she confided in a nun. The nun came up with the idea of setting the monastery clock forward an hour. No sooner said than done. When the devil was just above Lake Schaalsee with his net full of whitefish, the clock struck midnight. In anger that he had once again missed a soul, he hurled the whitefish and their net into the lake, where they have lived ever since. https://www.fischhaus-schaalsee.de/der-schaalsee/sagen-legenden/

This is a wonderful place to hike by bike or on foot. Self-reproaching little ones love the trail.

Chic cabins for boats and all sorts of other things for a nice weekend on the water. The owners probably find the hiking trail along it a nuisance. But it's also a good place for cycling.
