Highlight • Viewpoint

A family and child-friendly hike on good paths starting from Hoh-Haus am Buchberg in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel. This tour is mostly very flat along meadows and fields, only a few meters in altitude have to be made for the ascent to the wooded Buchberg.

Herrgottssitz Rock Formation

Highlight • Natural Monument

At the so-called Herrgottssitz there was probably once a place of worship and sacrifice. Today the beautiful shell stone is not only a wonderful place of power, but also the highest point in Schönau (855 meters).

Hussenstein Memorial

Highlight • Monument

Monument to the reformer Jan Hus
350 hundredweight monument: The Hussenstein is located at the place where the Bohemian reformers Jan Hus (6 July 1415) and Hieronymus of Prague (30 May 1416) were burned as heretics during the Council of Constance in the Middle Ages.
After almost 30 years of controversial discussions, the memorial stone made of blackish limestone, financed with donations, was inaugurated on October 6, 1862 and was intended to stand for "enlightenment, impartiality and mutual respect for different religious opinions" (Joseph Fickler, April 1862).
Until the construction of the surrounding new buildings after the Second World War, the Hussenstein stood in an almost undeveloped area as a memorial that was visible from afar. Today, on July 6th, the place is the scene of the annual commemoration of the two reformers, Jan Hus and Hieronymus of Prague.

A great granite stone with a summit cross. This place of power offers the opportunity to rest and pause. If you want to go up to the summit cross, a good hiking shoe with a firm grip is highly recommended.
