In the 19th century, owned by the Baldi counts along with enormous areas from Casalborsetti to Savio, it was leased to fishermen attracted by the pristine environment and the canals rich in mullet, eels, shrimp and water; subsequently it passed into the ownership of the Delta Padano body and then to the Municipality; at the end of the 50s, with the design of the industrial port in the San Vitale area, the slow environmental destruction began with a partial natural recovery of the fish and bird fauna: in 2011 the final blow with the construction of a circular earth dam that separates the polluted port area from the marshland, drastically reducing the connection with the Candidano, insufficient for water exchange; always fascinating to traverse it, especially at sunset, but heartbreaking to think of not being able to do it when it was pristine............😢

A hamlet in the Municipality of Ravenna with 700 inhabitants located south of the Reno River and the Comacchio Valleys in an area reclaimed in the 20th century, nestled in the spectacular Canna Valley, a haven for numerous migratory bird species. It is famous for the nearby Guiccioli Farm, where Anita Garibaldi died in 1849 and was subsequently temporarily buried a few steps from the farm (Anita's Memorial Stone). Garibaldi later found refuge at Casale Boscoorte, located shortly after the Via degli Angeli on the Comacchio Valleys cycling and nature trail.

This area was once covered by vast valleys, and the pine forest extended uninterruptedly from the Reno River to Cervia. In the following centuries, significant land reclamation and water management work was carried out, particularly in the pine forests of San Vitale, Classe, and Cervia.

The San Vitale pine forest is characterized by a system of parallel paths interrupted orthogonally by other paths and by canals that drain the waters of the surrounding territory. It is also enriched by wetlands such as the Bassa del Pirottolo and the Buca del Cavedone: unfortunately, poor maintenance has erased many paths invaded by brambles that, growing even in the wetlands, prevent the nesting of various species.

July 16, 2025, I confirm that you can pass. There was a construction fence on the bike bridge, but it had already been moved and you can pass without any problems. The path appears to be completed.
