November 12, 2023, Lefthand Trailhead

The Lefthand Trailhead is the main access point for a popular system of mountain biking trails on the eastern end of Lefthand Canyon. More of a large pullout than a true trailhead with a parking lot, there are no bathrooms, picnic area, or water stations here. There are restroom facilities just a little down the road east of here at Buckingham Park if you need them.

After crossing an attractive wooden footbridge the Ceran Saint Vrain Trail heads north, following the South Saint Vrain Creek until it intersects with Miller Rock Road. The trail is relatively flat and easy, but there are a few places where there are rocks and roots on the trail. In the spring and summer, there are many beautiful wildflowers along the trail and by the creek.

Just a few miles up Sunshine Canyon from downtown Boulder is Bald Mountain and the Bald Mountain Scenic Area. There is a short (.8 mile loop), scenic hike to the summit of Bald Mountain, which stands at 7,160 feet. From this spot you get fantastic views of the Continental Divide and of the city of Boulder and the Great Plains. This is the perfect spot for families and those who wish to take a short break from the city in the mountains.
