… best when the park is closed and you can only hike here …

This overlook offers gorgeous views of the surrounding hills to the east and west. It's also quite rocky, so be ready for some technical riding coming and going.

Brainard Lake is a beautiful alpine lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness below the Continental Divide surrounded by subalpine forest. It is in the Brainard Lake Recreation Area, which during the summer season usually requires a reservation and a fee, but if you are on your bike you do not need to pay or reserve a time slot. Because of the area's high elevation, snow typically remains until late spring, even on the paved road to the lake.

November 12, 2023, Lefthand Trailhead

The Lefthand Trailhead is the main access point for a popular system of mountain biking trails on the eastern end of Lefthand Canyon. More of a large pullout than a true trailhead with a parking lot, there are no bathrooms, picnic area, or water stations here. There are restroom facilities just a little down the road east of here at Buckingham Park if you need them.

The trail follows the creek north from here for about two miles before splitting off. There is plenty of parking here and you can stay at Jamestown Cabin just down from the trailhead.
