Wheeler Gorge is a breathtaking road cut into the rock. Of particular interest are a series of small tunnels and a bridge over North Fork Matilija Creek that is quite beautiful. The road is narrow, so stopping to take in the views is not ideal, but the ride is spectacular. A few hundred yards north is the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center where you can learn a little more about the geology and history of the area.

You'll be able to cross the San Antonio Creek via this bridge just before the point where it empties into the Ventura River. It was built recently in 2012 to facilitate this crossing for trail users since the previous solution was a concrete culvert that was inundated during storms. From this point, you can observe the creek and the surrounding nature.

Ventura County is a great place to explore if you like biking. There is a nice beachfront trail and this beauty of a trail that goes from the mountain town of Ojai to the Ventura Coast. This is a 15 mile trail so you could do an out and back ride to get a good day out of it. It is all on good trails so start where you want but it is downhill from Ojai.
