The complex consists of a preserved castle tower, cellar and wall remains, and parts of the surrounding wall. The castle finally became part of Brandenburg in 1478 and was granted as a hereditary fief to Count Johann von Hohenstein I.

Until 1996 Bagemühl was the seat of a parish, which included branch churches in Battin and Woddow. It currently belongs to the parish in Brüssow. In 2002 the church was temporarily closed due to the poor technical condition of the roof. In 2007, renovation of the roof structure began.
