June 26, 2024, Chaparral Trail (Northwest Texas Trail)

The Northeast Texas Trail, when fully completed at 130 miles, will be Texas' longest recreational trail and the fourth longest in the U.S. Currently spanning 26.5 miles, it follows former railroad corridors and is suitable for walking, cycling, and horseback riding. This scenic trail starts in Farmersville and winds through 19 rural towns and 7 counties, ending in New Boston. This part is the Chaparral Trail (Farmersville to Merit). For the first 2.4 miles the trail is concrete and comfortable to ride with the rest being crushed granite, so caution is advised or you can reroute through County Road 358.
