The Zuivelbrug is the elegant bridge over the Leie, which allows passage between two historically valuable districts. On the one hand, the Oudburg with the Patershol district, which belonged to the county property of the Grafenburg, and on the other hand, the Vrijdagmarkt. From the 13th century until 1476, this bridge was also known by the name Boudinsbrug, after a resident of the "Suvelsteghe". Initially, it was made of wood, then it was built of stone between 1363 and 1426. To allow the passage of seagoing vessels, a swing bridge was built between 1751 and 1754, which was renewed several times over time. On July 1, 1987, a completely renovated metal swing bridge was installed to replace the outdated bridge, which had been out of operation since 1968. Source: https://gentdekuip.com/zuivelbrug/

The Leie is a river that flows through France and Belgium. It originates in the municipality of Lisbourg, in the French department of Pas-de-Calais, generally flows in a northeasterly direction and, after a total of around 202 kilometers, flows into the Scheldt as a left tributary in the city area of Ghent, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Of the total length of the Leie, around 109 kilometers flow through Belgian territory, and for a length of around 24 kilometers, the river now forms the border between Belgium and France.

Since 1909, the Sint-Jorisbrug has spanned the Lys between Sint-Joriskaai and Dampoortstraat. Its peculiar, non-perpendicular course earned it the popular nickname 'Kemelbrücke'. In 1908, it was written that the Sint-Joris Bridge was to become the widest bridge in Europe. It replaced three neighboring bridges, which were demolished after construction and of which remains can still be found. To the north, precisely in the axis of the Steendam, was the old Sint-Jorisbrug, then a swing bridge. To the south lay the Pasbrug, a fixed footbridge, and the Rode Torenbrug, a metal swing bridge. The St.-Joris Bridge, also known as the Kemel Bridge due to its hump-shaped appearance, has been located at Portus Ganda since 1907. It is situated between the Steendam and the Dampoortstraat, where the Lys and the Scheldt rivers flow into the Napoleon De Pauwvertakking, also known as Pauwvaardeken or Pauwkanaal.

The Louisa d’Havé Bridge is a sleek, modern bicycle and pedestrian bridge that connects the banks of the Scheldt River. Its open steelwork and soft curves give the bridge an almost floating appearance above the water. From the center, you have a clear view of the quays, residential areas, and the gentle flow of the Scheldt.

The St. Michael's Bridge is a stone arch bridge in the center of the Belgian city of Ghent. The bridge spans the Leie River, on the south side of the Graslei and Korenlei. The current monumental bridge was built between 1905 and 1909, after the construction of the post office. Both the St. Michael's Bridge and the Old Post Office were designed by architect Louis Cloquet. Previously, there was a flat swing bridge. The bridge is part of Sint-Michielshelling Street. From the bridge, one has a view to the north of the Graslei and Korenlei, and in the distance, the Gravensteen Castle. To the east, the bridge offers a characteristic view of Ghent's three towers: St. Nicholas' Church, the Ghent Belfry, and St. Bavo's Cathedral. St. Michael's Church stands on the southwest side. The bridge was designated a protected monument in 1983.

From the Zuivelbrug bridge over the Leie River, you'll see the Dulle Griet (Mad Meg) on your left. This impressive wrought-iron cannon was long used as a garbage can or a sleeping place for lost drunks, so the barrel has now been sealed. It has stood in the same spot for 425 years and has never fired. Once you cross the bridge, you'll leave De Kuip and enter 's Gravensgrond (the Count's Ground): this area was originally owned by the Count, not by the city.
