June 30, 2025, Kalabus - Perry County Forest

Kalabus-Perry County Forest offers a great multi-use area with plenty of trails. While most are for hikers and mountain bikers, the main Kalabus-Perry Trail forms a ~3.5-mile figure-8 loop through the woods. There’s even a bike repair station at the trailhead if you need it! Make sure to know which trails are more appropriate for your skill level before heading out.

The lake is a highlight. Simply gorgeous. 😍 Tables and benches invite you to linger. Countless grills are waiting to be used. In short, you can relax wonderfully here and enjoy the day. Don't forget your swimming trunks.🏊‍♂️ The northern lake is a bird paradise, so be quiet - if you go for a walk there.

The Luther Forest Mountain Biking Trails are a fun network of technical trails located in Malta, New York. These well-maintained trails cover a variety of terrain, including rolling hills, wooded areas, wooden bridges, and some technical sections. Luther Forest, however, dries out very quickly, so just be aware of the general weather conditions before heading out there. The main loop through Luther Forest is fun, flowy, and generally beginner friendly, and there are several other shorter trails that loop off of the main trail, which you can use to extend your ride or make it a bit more challenging. There is also fun, but short, Jump Line and play area to practice your skills.

Kalabus-Perry County Forest is an attractive, multi-use area that has an extensive trail system. Most of the trails are open for hikers and mountain bikers, save for main Kalabus-Perry Trail, which creates a ~3.5 mile figure-8 through the woods. The mountain bike trails have recently seen quite a bit of development and you can expect single tracks, bridges, seesaws, and balance beams over mostly flat terrain. There is also bike repair station right at the trail head if needed!

Lake Ann is one of the smallest named reservoirs within Moreau Lake State Park. The lake appears more like a pond and is much less visited than some of the larger lakes in the park. There is a small lean-to on the other side of the trail from the water.

Lake Bonita was originally part of the Mount McGregor Correctional Facility, but its recent closure allowed the reservoir to join Moreau Lake State Park. There is a picnic table and bench on one side of the water, and you can walk across the dam to access the trail that loops around the lake.
