One of the four entrances to the Alhambra in Granada is through the Gate of Justice, also known as the Gate of the Esplanade. It features an impressive horseshoe arch. Built during the reign of Sultan Yusuf I in the 14th century, it is believed that its original purpose was to serve as the main entrance to the Alhambra, symbolizing power and authority. The monastery was founded in 1506; construction began ten years later and continued for three centuries. While the exterior is relatively restrained, the interior is a lavish explosion of ornamentation. Its complex geometric forms make it a masterpiece of the Churrigueresque style.
