Climbing the Simancon from the west side was easy and quite fun. Same goes for the Reloj. Luckily we had a very clear day and could see all the way upto Mulhacen in the Sierra Nevada and parts of Africa. However, descending from the Simancon was not easy at all. It was difficult to find a specific route and one has to be very careful.

caution, some paths at the top have disappeared due to landslides. We were stuck and had to clear our own path to continue. Dangerous.

What a great view - 360°! The path here is steep but well maintained! Unfortunately, you can only get to the summit with a (free) permit (approx. 20 people/day) - register in advance! - . From the north, El Torreon is a steep wall, from the southwest: a real mountain path! It's worth it!

An interesting ascent/descent to the summit, pathless with beautiful friction plates (if you can find them: occasionally small yellow arrows on the rock), but hands are not needed, if the visibility is good: fantastic!

Incredible panoramic views of the Grazalema mountain range with the imposing Torreón in front of you. The ascent from El Bosque is tough, especially the final part before reaching the summit.

I did it today and, following the instructions on the app, it is very very dangerous, not recommended at all (at least the part from the forest to the peak) you can access it safely from Benamahoma

A moderate option is the Puerto Navazuelos – Navazo Alto loop from Villaluenga del Rosario. You can find more details on these and other trails on the Hiking around Villaluenga Del Rosario guide.
For truly breathtaking views, El Torreón Peak, the highest point in Cádiz, offers incredible 360-degree vistas, including the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coast on clear days. Simancón Peak also provides expansive views of the Sierra del Pinar, Serranía de Ronda, Sierra de las Nieves, and even North Africa. Navazo Alto is another excellent choice, rewarding hikers with panoramic views encompassing the Sierra del Endrinal, Sierra del Pinar, and the Bornos reservoir.
Many of the peaks in this region, such as El Torreón Peak, Simancón Peak, and Pico del Reloj, are considered challenging. They often involve strenuous ascents, varied terrain, and sometimes technical sections requiring scrambling. Peñón Grande, for instance, has routes that require climbing knowledge due to exposed sections. It's advisable to be well-prepared and have appropriate experience.
The region is renowned for its unique karst topography. You'll encounter impressive limestone formations, deep chasms like the Sima del Cao, and large depressions known as poljes, such as Navazo Hondo and Navazo Alto. The terrain around peaks like Simancón and El Reloj is often described as lunar-like due to the weathered limestone, offering a distinct geological experience.
Yes, for some popular summits like El Torreón Peak, a permit is required. These permits are often free but limited in number (e.g., around 20 people per day) and must be registered in advance. It's essential to check the specific requirements for your chosen peak before planning your hike.
While many peaks are challenging, some routes or sections might be more accessible. For instance, the ascent to Albarracín Peak from El Bosque is tough, especially the final part, but the initial sections might be more manageable.
