Ascent to the Roque Nublo Plateau Roque Nublo is one of Gran Canaria's most significant natural monuments. A giant that rises to an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters in the center of the island, within a natural landscape protected by a biosphere reserve. This impressive rock monolith—a symbol of Gran Canaria—rises 80 meters from the plateau and offers a uniquely expansive panoramic view; only a few mountains on the island can match it. On clear days, the neighboring volcano, the famous Teide, is clearly visible.

The landmark of the town, which has around 1,000 inhabitants, is the parish church of San Matías. In the older part of the town there are numerous inhabited caves. In the cave chapel of the "Virgin of the Small Cave" there is a statue that, according to tradition, was brought here by Majorcan missionaries in the 14th century. The figure of the Virgin Mary is the patron saint of the island's veterans and cyclists. Her feast day is at the end of August.

The Roque Nublo monolith, with its almost 90 meters high, is the main symbol of the island and has inspired a multitude of works of art: "Lirica piedra lunar" lyrical moon rock, or "Altar do mi tierra maga" altar of my enchanting homeland (Nestor Alamo). Modern geology has identified the "Roque Nublo" as a strange type of volcanic rock known as "brecha Roque Nublo", Roque Nublo Breocie. It is the storage and subsequent cooling of embers. The formation belongs to the second period of volcanic eruptions on the island, which lasted almost 2 million years (from 5.3 to 3.4 million years ago). The Roque Nublo has a special meaning and is a symbolic place of pilgrimage for the locals. Since the peak was reached by a German rope team in 1932, it has also been a destination for mountaineers. The flora of the area consists of young reforested spruces and the yellow undergrowth such as various types of broom and sage. The massif belongs to the El Nublo nature reserve and has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Right next to the Mirador there is a parking lot where you can park your car for free. The parking lot is well frequented. However, you have to be careful, the condition is not particularly good, there are many large and deep potholes.
