From here we have a great place to rest and a magnificent view over the valley. It's worth the little detour!

This is a demanding course, for its climb and a delicate passage (vertigo) but exceptional for its scenery. To do

Trail Reviews

July 13, 2024, Boucle Grès d‘Annot

Hike carried out on 07/13/2024 from Annot in 3 hours. A great classic, magnificent settings... Sometimes you have the impression of being an ant wandering among stones. Until KM2.0: crossing part of Annot, to the Pignes train line. Then on the left, we begin the climb into the forest. Lots of chestnut trees, and after a while, the first blocks of sandstone, placed among the trees. Until KM2.3, Les Portettes: large rocks which come together to form an arch. Between KM2.5 and 3.3: loop towards a lookout which is in fact a huge rock. Superb panoramic. Avoid getting too close to the edge if you feel dizzy.... Between KM3.6 and 4.0: passage dug into the cliff, magnificent. A sign warns that the passage is wide, but that you should not approach the edge. Honestly, several of us crossed paths easily, just stay on the trail, and everything goes well. Up to KM4.7: sites known as the King's Chamber and King's Garden. Original and magnificent. This is where you think you're an ant. Until KM5.5: descent towards Annot, with a cave at KM5.1. At KM5.5, a sign with “Les Météores – 0h10” written on it. Decision made to make this little detour. Better not: trail not very visible, not very passable, overgrown with (prickly) vegetation, lost a lot of time, nothing special seen. It would have been necessary to continue the descent and follow the Pignes train line.

Passage in the Gorges du Verdon for a short walk around Anot. Passage through the King's chamber, essential circuit of this loop.

We walked the old paths from two thousand years ago that once led the first inhabitants to their rocks. there were natural sculptures in the sandstone rocks. After half an hour's walk we got to the rock shelter of the "Rubin" from around the 4th century BC. Then we first crossed the King's Garden before we got through a small opening into the "King's Chamber" with its hundred meter high walls. It once served as a refuge from enemy attacks... What a spectacle. This climb was so worth it!

Beautiful round with impressive rock formations. However, it is a bit more difficult than you would expect from a tour labeled "easy family tour". Pure walking time approx. 2.5 hours. Marked in yellow throughout.
