Embark on the East Rhidorroch & Loch Diamh loop from Ullapool, a difficult mountain biking trail that challenges your fitness and advanced riding skills. This remote Highland adventure covers 35.3 miles (56.7 km) with a significant 3279 feet (1000 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 5 hours and 16 minutes to complete. Expect expansive views of freshwater lochs and rolling hills as you traverse the rugged landscape around Loch Achall. This route offers a true immersion into the wild Scottish Highlands.

To make the most of your ride, plan your visit between late spring and early autumn, from May to September, when weather conditions are generally more favorable and daylight hours are longer. Ensure you have the necessary fitness and bike handling skills for a challenging day out in a remote environment. The trail starts and ends near Ullapool, providing a convenient base for your adventure.

What sets this trail apart is its truly remote Highland experience, taking you deep into landscapes far from urban areas. Along the way, you might encounter Knockdamph Bothy, a basic shelter with three rooms, including one with a sleeping platform and open fire, offering a unique resting spot. The route showcases the diverse geography of the Highlands, characterized by its freshwater lochs, varied terrain, and rugged beauty. This loop is a prime example of the challenging and rewarding mountain biking available in this part of Scotland.

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Shelter from the highland weather. It's a bit basic but when it's lashing down it's the perfect spot.
