Spurn Point Nature Reserve

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

Spurn is a long narrow sand spit with a tidal island at its end in the mouth of the Humber Estuary. It has a semi-permanent connection to the mainland but since a high sea in 2013 it's been an island at very high tides or big seas. Therefore, please be careful on this walk and check the weather and tide forecast.
The area is a national nature reserve owned and managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

Humber Lifeboat Station

Highlight • Monument

The lifeboat was first stationed here in 1810 with cottages for the lifeboat crews and the families being built within a couple of years. By 1870 there was a small residential community on Spurn Head with a room in the lighthouse being used as a chapel.
The current Humber Lifeboat Station is staffed full time by a professional crew. The current lifeboat is " The Pride of Humber" a Severn-class lifeboat.

Lovely walk watching some fantastic birds and butterflies, the World War buildings at the end are worth a visit too and great to get kids interested in a bit of the lands history. Informative boards all the way along with facts about the military and the wildlife there too. Great way to spend a sunny day.
