Near the Sasse de Ponton pasture, 4 floristic species were studied and defined as extremely rare in the Aosta Valley: Coincya richeri, Pedicularis foliosa, Stemmacantha rhapontica subsp. lamarckii and Dracocephalum ruyschiana. Recently, a very rare alpine sedge was identified, the Carex atrofusca, of which only two endemic stations are known in the whole of Italy: one in the Aosta Valley and one in the Valli di Lanzo. Looking up at the sky you can admire the golden eagle and during your walk you can meet a chamois or a marmot.

Built between 1925 and 1927 as a mountain and military outpost in the municipality of Valgrisenche, the historic Rifugio Mario Bezzi (2,284 meters) is named after one of the most illustrious members of the Turin section of the CAI. Today the structure has 82 beds and offers typical mountain cuisine, serving as an ideal base for traverses towards France and the nearby Benevolo and Chalet de l'Épée refuges.
