This route was planned by komoot.
The route is approximately 51 kilometers long and generally takes around 3.5 to 4 hours to complete by touring bicycle. However, this can vary depending on your fitness level and how often you stop to enjoy the scenery or local attractions.
The terrain is diverse and challenging. While mostly well-paved, be prepared for some unpaved and potentially difficult segments. The route is mountainous, featuring significant climbs and descents, with some sections having average gradients of 3.4% to 4.5%. A notable feature is the spectacular Orrido della Val Taleggio, where the road winds through canyons and tunnels. You'll also find sections that incorporate the paved Ciclovia della Val Brembana, which follows an old railway line and includes illuminated tunnels.
No, this route is considered difficult and requires very good fitness. With significant elevation gains of over 940 meters and challenging terrain, it is not recommended for beginners or those new to touring cycling.
The route is a ring starting and ending in San Pellegrino Terme. You can typically find parking in or around the town center to begin your ride.
You can expect a beautiful and very panoramic journey through an enchanting landscape of mountains, valleys, and gorges. The route offers stunning views of canyoning cliffs and an unspoiled environment of green mountains, providing peace and tranquility. You'll also pass through small, ancient villages.
Along the way, you can see the historic Ponte del Cappello, navigate the scenic Forcella di Bura Pass, and discover the unique Bear Fountain. Don't miss the spectacular Orrido della Val Taleggio gorge with its winding roads and tunnels.
The best time to cycle the Val Taleggio Cycle Route is during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn, when the weather is most favorable and the mountain scenery is lush and green. Avoid winter due to potential snow and ice, and be mindful of hot summer days on climbs.
Absolutely! The Val Taleggio region is famous for its cheesemaking tradition, being the namesake and production area of Taleggio cheese. A popular cultural stop for many cyclists is Bar Pesenti, where it's customary to enjoy a delicious panino con il taleggio.
Yes, the route incorporates significant sections of the Ciclo Percorso Val Taleggio (71% of the route) and also passes through parts of the Ciclovia Valle Brembana (31% of the route), which follows an old railway line.
While the route is primarily a road cycling experience, dogs are generally permitted on leash in public areas. However, always ensure your dog is well-behaved and that you clean up after them. Be mindful of traffic and other cyclists.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to cycle the Val Taleggio Cycle Route. It is freely accessible to the public.
Since the heavy rains made my favorite paths impassable, I opted for a route that had only one objective... To buy the Strachitunt in Reggeto!
Departure from Zogno following the Val Brembana cycle path until reaching S. Giovanni Bianco. Follow the signs for Val Taleggio and take the SP 25. After a few km the slightly uphill road becomes more and more suggestive and beautiful as you enter the ravine of Val Taleggio. It is a very beautiful canyon and it is a beauty to ride in such a charming road. Once in Olga, turn left onto the SP 24. The first stretch is downhill but immediately after a couple of km the road starts to climb again. After about 7 km you finally go down following the SP 24 which practically takes you back to Zogno. Once I arrived in Zogno I decided to continue to S.Pellegrino Terme where I stopped for an ice cream break. Resume the Val Brembana cycle path and go back to Zogno to complete the circular tour
To try to escape the pall of heat that haunts us today, I thought I'd move towards the Bergamo valleys scheme. I left the car in Alme' and after crossing the provincial road I started pedaling on the Val Brembana cycle path in the direction of S. Giovanni Bianco. Arrived here I left the cycle path to follow the road of Val Taleggio. Once I reached Olda I continued towards the Bura pass. I then passed through Gerosa and with a rather long descent I arrived in Brembilla. Along the provincial road I then passed through Zogno to resume the cycle path up to Alme'. The right amount of challenging climbs and roads with little traffic (apart from the section from Brembilla to Zogno). While pedaling in the hot hours, you can take advantage of the road sections that cross wooded areas.
