The Langdale Pikes, is an iconic walk in the Central Lake District. And for those bagging Wainwrights, this hike takes in: Loft Crag, Pike of Stickle, Harrison Stickle, Pavey Ark, Thunacar Knott, High Raise, Sergeant Man, Stickle Tarn 📍 The New Dungeon Ghyll (The hotel offers car-park only options for a small fee and cheaper than the NT car-park) 🥾 With about 7 miles and 3,000 ft of elevation; I would rate this walk as moderate+ to strenuous 🍺 The New Dungeon Ghyll – Langdale – at the beginning or end of the walk. For sunny days; there are some seating in front of the hotel and further seating in the 6 acres garden with some deck chairs and stunning views of Crinkle Crags. For the cooler day; the Walker’s bar is open to non-residents and has a wood-burning fire. It serves its own branded ales as well as other locally brewed ales. And the food is locally sourced. You can also grab breakfast or a cup of coffee before setting off as Stickle Barn does not open before 10 am. 🍺 Stickle Barn – Langdale – at the beginning or end of the walk. Live music on some nights. Some local ales served in the bar, the beer-garden or the cute and shaded family friendly outdoors area. Delicious cakes throughout the day and American type menu. ⚠️ There are no technical skills required on this walk other than good navigation skills or tool. Don't forget to take plenty of layers as some of the summits are very exposed and the wind-chill, even on the hottest days can be brutal. 🧳 Make a week-end of it: providing you are after a week-end of pure outdoor activities or to combine with some spa experience; the Langdales will be paradise. There are accommodation options to suit all tastes and budget. The food and pub options are good to. But if you are after a range of shops or rows of cafes, restaurants etc; this would not be the place for you. My first hike for months due to my health being a bit rubbish, but what a beast of a hike to get me back into it, and it felt amazing being back out in the mountains surrounded by nature 🤩 Gorgeous sunny weather (way too hot for me tbh 🥵), stunning views all the way round and to cap it off a brilliant scramble up Jack's Rake that I've waited months to do 👌😁 looks very daunting facing it from the front just a big cliff face but once you move up to the right hand side a secret 'path' suddenly appears lol great fun if you like a good climb but some hard bits so take care. And 8 Wainwright's bagged: High Raise #57 - 762m Harrison Stickle #69 - 736m Sergeant Man #70 - 736m Thunacar Knott #76 - 723m Pike o' Stickle #83 - 709m Pavey Ark #89 - 700m Loft Crag #98 - 680m Blea Rigg #152 - 541m
A scramble up Jacks Rake is not for the faint hearted! We took on this challenge and then headed off to bag some of the surrounding Wainwrights. The views were amazing, especially those from Sargeant Man down the valley.
