Hiking

The Kaiseregg is one of the main peaks of the Friborg Pre-Alps and offers panoramas worthy of romantic paintings! It is therefore not surprising that this hike attracts many adventurers.

A little anecdote to set the tone: the name of the summit is due to a confusion... Literally the "corner of the emperor", the name of the summit would have been in fact "Käseregg", or "corner of the cheese maker". It makes more sense in a region that has never known an emperor but where artisanal cheese production reigns!

From Schwarzsee, take the chairlift to reach the Riggisalp plateau. You then chain the alpine huts to the crest of the Kaiseregg, to the main pass. Then the return is downhill to Schwarzsee.

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Alpine show dairy with buvette. The route from Salzmatt to Riggisalp is also popular with bikers. There is a small lake just above the hut.

Kaiseregg Summit

Highlight • Summit

The kicks and steps before the pass are worth it. Arrived on the Kaisereggpass you have a wonderful meadow and you can see the Bernese and Valais Alps for the first time. The Kaiseregg summit is now not far and the route is no longer very strenuous. Goal achieved :-)

Below us is the Kaisereggalp, from where you can get to Boltigen (past the two Walopseen).

Brother Klaus Church, Schwarzsee

Highlight • Religious Site

At the beginning of the 20th century, religion was characterized by a strong belief in authority, and the population was very attached to the Catholic faith. In the Schwarzseetal, the believers had three chapels at their disposal. However, the valley community wanted more and more a church. In 1930 the Plaffeien Parish Council received an application to consider building a church with a rectory in Schwarzsee.

With a legacy from Leo Offner in 1938, who appointed the parish of Plaffeien as the main heir with the determination of the construction of a Catholic church in the Schwarzseetal, the first financial cornerstone for the construction was planned. But it needed other patrons and countless helpers to realize the church building. Long discussions and meetings were necessary to determine the location.

The canonization of Brother Klaus at this time made it easier to determine the patron saint of the church. However, it took a full 36 years until the Brother Klaus Church at Schwarzsee was inaugurated in 1966.

Same mountain 5 days later. Last week's cold snap is history.

Today was my first ascent of the Kaiseregg Pass this season. As is typical for May, I had to avoid a few switchbacks in the lower section of the Kaiseregg Pass. These switchbacks are always filled with a meter-high layer of snow for a long time. The sun barely …

Today day 2 of my short trip to Switzerland ♥️. And finally climbed the Kaiseregg. Due to my slight knee injury 🙄 I decided to first take the chairlift to Riggisalp and then up to the top. It was exhausting enough as it was. Great weather and the first snow - probably the first and last for me this season …

The pictures are a bit jumbled, but no matter - it was a beautiful day!

The bag, or rather the contents, are collected trash from people who forgot that you really shouldn't leave anything behind in nature. 😉

Terrain for hiking, wet or not? That was the question this morning.

After it had rained a bit yesterday until late evening, not like a deluge elsewhere, I didn't know exactly how muddy and slippery the hiking trails in the mountains would look today. The warm summer rain, perfect for dancing in, was urgently needed, as the neighboring municipality had …

As always at the end of May. The first Kaiseregg ascent of the year was due 🥳

Today I started very late to climb to a summit. Only set off at 10 am and the thermometer was already scratching the 20°C mark at 1050m. But since it was merely the local mountain of Schwarzsee and I can manage the route …

Today was once again a classic of mine on the program. Already at the start at 10:15 a.m. it was warm 20 degrees 🥵. I left the destination open because at this time of year there is often still a lot of snow on the steps just before the Kaiseregg Pass. And there was still a lot of snow in …
