Hiking
In the 17th century, the Haus Ternell nature center in the heart of the Hertogenwald served as a hunting lodge for a wool manufacturer from nearby Monschau. Today it is an ideal starting point for beautiful hikes like this one. The Hertogenwald is the largest closed forest area in Belgium. You can feel this seclusion after only a few meters.
First you follow the still very young Hill on its way into the valley, followed by a short but steep climb and a crossing of Monschauer Straße. Now you meet the Getzbach and follow its course upstream. Good shoes and a certain degree of surefootedness are absolutely necessary here, because the path is natural and can also be slippery depending on the water level. But you can enjoy a beautiful route.
Towards the end of the hike, you cross the Getzbach again and hike straight back to Haus Ternell, where your tour ends after about eight kilometers. It's a good idea to sit back and review what you've experienced on the terrace with a good drink.

At just under 8km, it was very manageable and more of a walk - despite everything, a dream in (guaranteed) any season.

You shouldn't be afraid of heights. A sign points to the dangerous path. There were months when I first hesitated whether to go on. But wonderful. 8 km over root paths, stones, rubble.
