Hiking

On this hike, you can expect wide views of the landscape, deep gorges and old railway viaducts. Enjoy the premium hiking trail Viaduct and Gorge Tour on narrow paths through a beautiful and varied landscape.

You start at the Old Town Hall in Kappel and walk along historic paths through the impressive landscape of the Black Forest. Right at the beginning, the small chapel of St. Anthony awaits you - a place of peace where travelers have always said a short prayer. Then you follow the mill path, which leads you down into the gorge, past a disused railway line, which gives the path a touch of nostalgia.

The impressive Hölloch rock is a highlight of the tour. Narrow paths take you to this imposing rock massif that towers majestically over the gorge. The route continues along the Haslach to where it flows into the Wutach. As you follow the Wutach for a while, you can enjoy the silence of the forest before finally climbing out of the gorge over the stone fields. The tour ends with a relaxed return journey over meadow and forest paths that lead you back to Kappel.

A rocky, rooty path leads to the Höllloch rock. From there you can look down into the Höllloch.

Rake rock

Highlight • Gorge

The valley suddenly becomes a gorge and the water squeezes through the rocks. A fantastic sight! Probably one of the most mystical places in the southern Black Forest.

At the confluence of the Haslach and Gutach to form the Wutach, there is a bench that invites you to linger in this energetic, idyllic place. Watch, relax, enjoy the living power of the water and draw strength for yourself.

Two events on this tour have stuck in my mind. On ours we met people who naturally lit a cigarette in the forest and an older gentleman who was carrying a full garbage bag with other people's garbage.
How important is this beautiful nature to us? Maybe everyone should look within themselves and chew gum instead of lighting a cigarette …

I was a bit confused by the directions because different parking lots were indicated for the start and finish, it doesn't really matter which one you use (you can also start from the Schützenhaus), it was just 2 km further from the old town hall.
At the beginning we went in a different direction than planned, but I think that …

Very nice, varied tour. We recommend. 🌞

The route begins either at the old town hall in Kappel or at the Schützenhaus.
The first highlight of the tour comes before the first kilometer, it is the old St. Antonius Chapel, which is dedicated to St. Antonius.
About 150 years ago, pious citizens of Kappel made a pilgrimage to the Antonius Forest to a small statue of Antonius …

The gorge and viaduct path near Lenzkirch-Kappel
It is an impressive gorge experience in the area of the Gutach and Haslach gorges and the small waterfall there. When the Wutach arises from the Gutach and Haslach, the valley widens and the river seems calmer. The names Gutach and Haslach are used several times. We weren't in the Kinzig valley, but …

Strangely enough, at some point she goes who knows where, just not following the signs.

Always follow the signs!!!

It's a bit of a shame that you don't really get anything from the report.

We tackled the climb today, October 3rd, 2022. We are both hiking guides and know the area quite well. However, I have to say that as a non-resident you have to look for the viaducts. There should be hints. Otherwise, the route is well signposted.
