Short Tour to the Glaswaldsee – Bad Peterstal-Griesbach

This four-kilometer tour takes you to the Glaswaldsee, one of the most beautiful cirque lakes in the Black Forest. The hike starts at the car park on the Freiersberg, easily recognizable by the stone archway. The first two kilometers you hike uphill through the forest. After almost a kilometer, fresh spring water bubbles up at the Julius fountain for your refreshment.

After you have mastered the ascent, the Glaswaldsee is at your feet. It is also called the "blue eye" in the central northern Black Forest - from the vantage point it is easy to understand why. You have a great view of the dark water of the lake, the surrounding dense Black Forest and the surrounding mountains. The path leads you down to the lake and finally along the shore. Here you will find beautiful places where you can make yourself comfortable and enjoy the wild and romantic landscape.

Pack provisions and a blanket for this hike, there are no rest stops at the lake. You can fill your drinking bottle at the Julius fountain. Don't let the color of the Glaswaldsee irritate you, the water is extremely low in lime and bases, making it very acidic and low in nutrients. This is what makes the water look so brown.

If you have enough time, a short detour to the Klagstein is worthwhile. The path branches off to the right at the Julius fountain. From the 907 meter high rock you have a great view over the surrounding Black Forest heights and with good visibility to the Swabian Alb.
