Cycling

You start the tour at the city palace and follow the Altmühltal cycle path towards Pappenheim, behind the Treuchtlingen building yard you turn right onto the cycle path to Wemding and reach the quiet and romantic Möhrenbachtal.

Following the course of the stream, repeatedly past old mills, you finally reach the town of Möhren. The image of the place is characterized by the castle towering high above the town and the “Guardian Angel House” underneath, a former children's home. The castle, a medieval hunting lodge of the Pappenheim counts, is now privately owned. The local church with the separate tower is also interesting.

In Möhren you continue to follow the cycle path via Gundelsheim and Weilheim to Otting. There you will find Otting Castle, which can look back on 400 years of history, at an idyllic pond. You then reach the fuchsia town of Wemding. The city is known for its pilgrimage church “Maria Brünnlein”. The basilica in the Rococo style was built in the 18th century and is home to a miraculous image of the Mother of God. In Wemding it is also worth visiting the medieval old town, which is also decorated with magnificently blooming fuchsias in summer.

From the Wemding market square, follow the signs towards Gunzenhausen/Polsingen. The scenically interesting and challenging continuation of the bike tour leads to the Hahnenkamm region. The Hahnenkammsee, with its well-kept lawn and bathing beach, invites you to take a relaxing break on the shore. From Hechlingen am See you take the cycle path back towards Treuchtlingen, which leads back to the starting point via Auernheim and through the Heumöderntal.

Treuchtlingen Castle

Highlight • Castle

Today the spa and tourist information is located in the small Renaissance castle. The statue of the equestrian general Gottfried Heinrich zu Pappenheim stands in the moat of the Treuchtlingen city palace, where he was born in 1594. Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim was a general in the Thirty Years War who fought for the Catholic League and the Habsburg Emperor under Wallenstein's command. The well-known, originally positive expression goes back to him: "This is how I recognize my Pappenheimers".

A circular tour on great paths in a very beautiful area.

The most beautiful part of the way goes through the Möhrenbachtal. After Wemding, the tour leads through an agricultural area to the Hahnenkammsee. Then it goes over a lot of gravel roads with constant ups and downs through forest unf field to Treuchtlingen. An e-bike is advisable here.

First through the Möhrenbachtal to Weilheim/Otting, on to Wemding, which lies on the inner edge of the Ries crater. Via Polsingen to Lake Hahnenkamm. Then again climbs until finally the Heumöderntal can roll to Treuchtlingen. Varied and lonely paths with numerous hills and valleys.

Coffeetime RETRACTED, a new chapter in Coffeetime ON TOUR. Two charming valleys are combined in the Hahnenkamm tour. With a few quick turns of the pedal, we leave Treuchtlingen and plunge into the Möhrenbachtal valley. The valley is described as quiet and romantic—romantic, yes, quiet? No—the birds chirp, the carrots babble, the tires crunch on the gravel road. Now, between …
