Hiking

At Trooz, the Weser has dug deep into the surrounding limestone plateau. If you want to hike to the surrounding heights, this involves steep climbs. You will be amply rewarded with unforgettable views. Almost the entire hike runs on natural paths and paths through the countryside. The only place you cross is the hilltop town of Forêt. On the Place du Village, located directly at the church, you can take a leisurely break.

The hike starts just outside the gates of Trooz train station. Witnesses of the long-gone industrial heyday of the place, such as the rolling mill, can be found along the way. You quickly climb up out of the valley. The paths in the forest are sometimes really steep, so take your time to enjoy the fantastic view of the Weser Valley. After you finally leave Forêt behind you, it's all downhill. The wonderful, varied hike comes to an end back at Trooz train station.

Fenderie Castle

Highlight • Castle

From 1583 and until the 1960s, workers and craftsmen worked in these forges to split iron bars into rods and rods, forge nails, treat sheet metal and flat iron for armory and utensils, drill gun barrels.

The peak of the arms industry took place throughout the valley between 1880 and 1890. There were then 18 drilling factories on the Vesdre, most of them in Nessonvaux.

View over the Vesdre Valley

Highlight • Viewpoint

In this season the trees are completely bare and the view over the Vesdre valley is truly breathtaking. You overlook almost 180 °! If the weather is right, it's just wonderful!

Village Square of Forêt

Highlight • Settlement

Forest (in Walloon Foret-dlé-Tchôfontinne) is a section of the Belgian municipality of Trooz located in the Walloon Region in the province of Liège.

It was a commune in its own right before the merger of the communes of 1977, it included the villages of Prayon and Trooz.
Small village typical of the Pays de Herve in the Entre-Vesdre-et-Meuse region, its location straddles two distinct geological zones: the Herve plateau (limestone) and the slopes of the edge of the Vesdre (schistose sandstone).

The constructions of the old core in the heart of the village are made of sandstone and/or limestone rubble. These traditional houses surrounded a pond (watering trough, washhouse) now filled.

The church, built under the patronage of Sainte-Catherine, is surrounded by its cemetery. Inside the nave, you can admire a polychrome Christ from the 14th century and a set of tempera paintings dating from the 16th century depicting the martyrdom of Saint Barbara.

September 29, 2024,Trooz: Een boswandeling – Over heuvels en door dalen in Ourthe-Vesdre-Amblève
Lots of fallen trees in the forest. It is very beautiful and sometimes tough. Autumn and winter be careful with slippery parts.

!!! At 5.3km, I made a mistake so here I am in the brush for 600m. In order to avoid this trouble, it was enough to follow the left path rather than the unmarked which went straight.
Other than that, very nice ride! Really.
