At first glance, the moss-covered stones look a bit inconspicuous, but there is a piece of history hidden here. You can see the remains of the Heunenbuckel sentry. You can read more information about this on the information board.

After a two-year break, we're continuing our Roman Trails in the Odenwald.
The detour to the "Heunebuckel" guard post is a no-brainer, as the remains are barely visible.
The last two pictures show the museum in Wagenschwend, which is well worth a visit, and its opening hours. It contains many original finds from the Limes region.

Hello everyone,

Today Anne and I took advantage of the nice weather and walked in Roman footsteps again. In other words: We hiked another Roman path: the Venus path 🥰

The path is 8.5km long and in our opinion the first 2/3 is a little better than the last third. Overall, the path was very nice to walk, especially …

Very nice, comfortable hiking trail with hardly any inclines.
The first three kilometers run through dense forest in the shade. From Balsbach onwards, sections in the forest alternate with open meadows and fields.
Especially on the open stretches, you are rewarded with fantastic views all around.
