Hiking

The circular route runs through three completely different nature reserves, each of which represents a very typical habitat for the Rhön. Starting from the near-natural deciduous forests on the Gangolfsberg, you hike to the floodplains of the Els with extensive meadows and finally reach the large areas of calcareous grassland…

Great route, especially from the basalt prism wall, it goes over hill and dale. At the beginning there is a lot of information about the different types.

I chose the Rhön circular trail 6 in Oberelsbach. There are plenty of hiking trails here and the town itself does a lot for tourism. You can stock up on lots of brochures in the "Haus der Langen Rhön". The biosphere center "Haus der Langen Rhön" puts on an extensive event program every year with guided hikes, exhibitions and lectures. …

I saw this tour for the first time at @ANGELIKA. Great route. Saw a few new things, as I was familiar with most of the route. Sun and a pleasant temperature during the hike.

The Mühlwiesental was a disappointment. Perhaps we should have stayed on the north-eastern side of the Els; it looks more attractive on the map.

Recommended round tour, which leads from Oberelsbach along the Els to the basalt prism wall (absolutely worth seeing!!), through the block debris forests on the Gangolfsberg and to the old quarry. You walk back a bit on a wide gravel path before you come back to a beautiful Rhön hiking trail.
