Hiking

This tour combines three wonderful views of Saxon Switzerland and sometimes even beyond! From Hohnstein it goes first to the Napoleonschanze, from there far down into the Tiefen Grund and then immediately back up to the Waitzdorfer Höhe. After crossing the Waldhufendorf Waitzdorf, countless steps (how many are there?) lead up to the Brandaussicht - the balcony of Saxon Switzerland.

The tour is suitable for children and dogs as long as they enjoy climbing and descending stairs!

Starting and ending point of the tour: Eiche bus stop, Hohnstein (vvo-online.de)

Parking spot:
"Oak", 5 euros/day, around 70 parking spaces

Brand Steps

Highlight • Trail

Around 850 steps from the Tiefen Grund to the Brand massif will make your thighs burn. 🔥 Around 150 metres in altitude are overcome, mostly on wooden stairs and two steel stairs.

View from Brand

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the "Balcony of Saxon Switzerland" you have an incomparable panorama over the Elbsandsteingebirge. The fire is in the middle of the forest, 170 meters above the Polenztal. The brave sit down a little further on the rock, who prefers solid ground under their feet, enjoys the view at a stop in the "Brandbaude".

exhausting (at least for pensioners), but very beautiful

Of course, that included the climb to Waitzdorfer Höhe 😆, and we didn't fly down the Brandstufen either. Komoot must have just been on its lunch break 👀

I had seen this round with someone and found it quite exciting, today the time had come to try and see what was wrong with my knee after the long break... Unfortunately still not fit... I'll probably have to go to the doctor :-(

bomb weather! Perfect for hiking. girls tour. Lots of stairs up and down, through gorges and along cliffs. I know the area well, even discovered something new. The fire levels have it all 😅😎 Immediately noticed new ways for the next time.

What great views from the Waitzdorferhöhe, including infinite expanse! A hiking tour with many forest and mountain trails. But also with over 1,200 steps, 800 of them uphill at the Brandaussicht. We added a small detour in Waitzdorf, deviating from the original route, to enjoy the Waitzdorf view. Definitely do.

Hike with 2 (!) restaurants that are open and where you can have a nice rest. They are the Waitzdorfer Schänke and the Brand Baude. The view of the Brand is as always great! A wonderful reward after the 866!!! Brand steps (counted myself😊).

Sporty tour over 2 beautiful vantage points (Napoleonschanze and Brand). Through a lot of forest and along great meadows and fields.

It was supposed to be a relaxed tour in this heat, but the climb to Brandaussicht was quite something. There are 725 (+-5) steps. Anyone who doesn't believe it is welcome to try the climb themselves. Of course, there are easier ways, like driving there by car or taking the straight path from Hohnstein. But where's the fun and the …
