Hiking

The view from the Buchensteinwand above Fieberbrunn is great anyway, but once you've climbed up in the summit cross, the panoramic view will overturn you. The Jakobskreuz on the summit is 30 meters, not only the largest summit cross of the Alps, but also fully accessible as a lookout tower. Our tour takes you from St. Jakob in the house on well walkable paths up to the summit. From there you finally float down the mountain railway down to the valley. Of course, if the ascent is too exhausting for you, you can also plan the tour in reverse order.

From the starting point of the hike you first stroll along the banks of the Anzentalbach over wide meadows and fields. First you walk here on barely traveled asphalt roads, but soon the ascent route leads you into a cool mountain forest. On beautiful trails it goes steadily uphill.

Just before you reach the top of the Buchensteinwand, you leave the forest and step out onto fragrant mountain meadows. A few more steps and you have reached the cross of St. James. The entrance fee for the summit cross is definitely worth it, because the view is absolutely phenomenal - holders of the PillerseeTal-Card may even climb up in vain. Afterwards you can stop in the mountain inn and then float down the mountain railway to the valley.

Tip: If you and your kids still feel like some action, you should definitely visit the family park Pillerseetal. It is located just a few minutes from the valley station and offers a roller coaster, ferris wheel, wild water train and much more.

Magnificent mountain hiking trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The ascent route to the Buchensteinwand initially leads through dense mountain forests, but here the trees suddenly give you a view of the Loferer Steinberge and the craggy peaks of the Wilder Kaiser.

Buchensteinwand Cable Car

Highlight • Rest Area

After you have enjoyed the view from the Jakobskreuz and the Tyrolean delicacies in the mountain inn, you can take the Buchensteinwand cable car back down into the valley.

Adults pay 11 euros for a single journey and children 6 euros. If you take the mountain railway in both directions, you pay 16 euros for adults and 8 euros for children.

Tip: Holders of the PillerseeTal Card can use the cable car for free – and don’t pay anything for the Jakobskreuz on the Buchensteinwand either.
