Hiking

The Rettershof is a popular destination in the Vordertaunus. From here, a total of seven signposted and varied circular hiking trails start, inviting you to discover the Vordertaunus on foot.

The second-longest circular hiking trail is the R8, which offers plenty of variety with its approximately eleven kilometers. Around 250 meters of altitude also need to be overcome. Good basic fitness and good footwear are therefore highly recommended.

The R8, like all other circular hiking trails, starts directly at the Rettershof. Here you can decide whether you want to strengthen yourself first at the "Zum Fröhlichen Landmann" inn for the next eleven kilometers or would prefer to stop by after the tour. Another opportunity to stop for refreshments is about halfway through the tour.

Follow the hiking trail marked with a red R in a clockwise direction. First along the edge of the forest, you will easily master the first few kilometers with their gentle ascent. Only shortly before you turn into the Viktoriaweg do the altitude meters become noticeable. But once you have overcome them, the most strenuous part of this tour is already done.

You walk almost on a straight path on the quite wide Viktoriaweg until the fork. You turn left and follow the path, which is located on a slope below the Steinkopf, one of the five highest independent peaks in the Taunus. The second refreshment stop on this route is now only about one and a half kilometers away: the Naturfreundehaus Billtalhöhe.

After you have refueled there, you first descend along the edge of the idyllic Billtal. First through a dense forest, then the landscape changes near Königstein to an open landscape of fields and meadows. Here, countless views of Königstein with its summit ruin offer themselves.

Near Schneidhain, you walk along the edge of this district until you enter a forest area again. Here you continue straight ahead to the starting point, but pay attention to a sign indicating the nearby Café Rettershof. Because instead of simply continuing to follow the path, you take a small detour via the romantic Liebespfad (Path of Love), which also leads to your starting point for the hike.

March 13, 2022,Rundwanderweg R8 am Rettershof
This round starts at the Rettershof and is the R8 around the Rettershof. It is one of the difficult tours with steep sections that are rewarded with great views. Everything is included on this route, starting with the deepest forest, across meadows and fields, but also along the outskirts of villages. It is a strenuous tour but really very beautiful. …

The second longest of the hiking trails around the Rettershof. I especially like this because of the two crisp climbs at the Eichkopf / Steinkopf. Due to the damage that the bark beetle has caused here in recent years, there is a fantastic view of Frankfurt and Königstein and the surrounding area.
After almost half of the route, there is …

This time the R8 went with official signs, which means only around the stone head and not up the aisle. A few weeks ago I was following the GPS route from the Taunus Tourist Office. Slightly different - but I liked the path with the Steinkopf-Schneise better, it offers a nice view of Frankfurt and the surrounding area. And it's …

Today I finally found time for a hike. I walked the R8 from Rettershof—quite a nice tour, but unfortunately with lots of gravel paths and a bit of asphalt. Tomorrow, my hip joints will be hurting.

Guided hikes by the PWV (PWV). Thank you very much for that. The tour started at the train station in Schneidhain. Unfortunately, it rained in the morning. But that didn't stop us from doing the hike. After a while, we were rewarded with sunshine. First, we headed toward Rettershof, after which it became more or less strenuous until we reached …

Unfortunately, the R8 circular route around the Rettershof is sometimes very poorly signposted or not signposted at all. Nevertheless, a great tour on which, with good visibility and weather, you have a fantastic view over Frankfurt to the power plant towers of Hainburg. Afterwards stop in the cafe of the Rettershof.

At the end of the official tour I walked to my in-laws, so a few more kilometers. The R8 has about 10.5 km. A visit to the restaurant ''The happy country man'' should be combined with the tour. Very tasty and in an idyllic location!

Exactly half a year ago, hiking rat Emma and I walked this path together and really appreciated the Christmas market at the Naturfreundehaus Billtalhöhe.

Today we enjoyed the early summer vegetation, in particular there were foxgloves everywhere 😊

A path that you will want to walk again and again: up and down, varied, a historic summit and wonderful places to …
