Tour to the Wimbachschloss – hiking in the Berchtesgaden National Park

Hiking

You start at the Wimbachbrücke National Park Information Point. From the car park at the Wimbachbrücke, follow the signs towards Wimbachschloss. Shortly after »Wimbachs Wollstadl« you will reach a junction where you turn left to the Wimbachklamm (fee required! - coins are available from the ticket machine near the Wollstadl). You can either go through the gorge or keep to the right and follow the briefly very steep path further into the valley.

After about 1 km, the two paths meet again. With a very slight but steady incline, you take the hiking trail (411, 421) to Wimbachschloss. An ideal place to stop for a break in the summer months. The return journey takes you along the same route.

BEST MONTHS: May to October

REQUIREMENTS: mountain boots, good physical condition

WHAT TO EXPECT: easy hike with a slight incline

Please note that the difficulty information on the tour portals and signposts in the terrain may differ from one another. Your tour planning should be adapted to your physical condition, which is why we ask you to always take all factors into account and not to ignore the signs in the area!
The difficulty information on the signposts in the area corresponds to the path categories of the DAV (German Alpine Association). This tour is marked in blue and is therefore considered an easy mountain path. The paths are often narrow and can have steep sections; there is no danger of falling.

ARRIVAL BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Usually free with a guest card from the valley basin communities (exceptions possible).
It is best to get off at the “Wimbachbrücke” stop. From there it is only a few meters (approx. 150 m) on foot.
The following bus lines will take you to your destination:
From Berchtesgaden: Bus line 846
From Schönau: Bus line 840 - change at the bus station/Berchtesgaden main station - Bus line 846
From Ramsau: Bus line 846

You can find the timetable information at https://www.bayern-fahrplan.de/
The sustainable journey is not only good for the environment, it also saves you on parking costs. Have a nice trip!

Variant: Summer timetable (Please note the timetables and possible changes.)

Did the tour but didn't record it. Therefore clicked together afterwards. Interesting that Komoot gives a time and creates a speed profile.

Wimbach Gorge and Wimbach Castle will not open until May 1, 2025. However, there is a self-service refrigerator with drinks at the top of the castle.

The hiking trail through the Wimbachklamm leads over a wooden footbridge, steps and small bridges, the path is approx. 200 m long. Here you can watch the water in its element as it winds its way through the gorge - a nice natural spectacle. The path then continues very gradually ⛰up, the "river bed" then suddenly turns into a stone …

Wonderful valley with the Wimbachklamm at the beginning - wide path through the Wimbachtal with impressive mountain scenery on both sides - very good hospitality in the Wimbachschloss

A fairly easy tour, first through the Wimbach Gorge and then up to the Wimbach "castle" - and back. From there you can of course continue to the Wimbach Hut or beyond. But for those who are not so sporty or families with children, the first destination is already good and very nice to look at. Especially the stretch above …

Easy tour. Ideal when the legs sometimes. Need a day off. There is a fee to cross the gorge. Tour is suitable for the dog.

A geological landmark in Berchtesgaden National Park

The Wimbach Gorge in Berchtesgaden National Park is not only a geologically impressive landmark and a wildly romantic natural monument, but also a popular destination for hikers and walkers. The power of water is just as evident here as the immense time it takes …

Beautiful tour that is a bit steep in places. But the walk is worth it for the Wimbachschloss inn. Beautiful location and great food.
