Hiking

You start at the Nationalpark-Infostelle Hintersee (Klausbachhaus). A few meters behind the Nationalpark-Infostelle, you leave the asphalt road and follow hiking trail 481, through sparse pasture – forests with colorful meadows and juniper bushes. Past the eagle observation point until you reach the crossroads at the Lahnwald-Diensthütte. Continue straight ahead there, turn left at the next junction and then cross the stream to Ragertalm. The return journey follows the same route.

BEST MONTHS: May to October

REQUIREMENTS: Hiking boots, accessible up to just before the bridge at the stream (more incline afterwards), also suitable for inexperienced hikers

WHAT TO EXPECT: easy walk with little incline

Klausbachhaus National Park Information Center

Highlight • Rest Area

The Hintersee National Park Information Center is located at the entrance to the Klausbach Valley. The listed farmhouse, also known as the Klausbachhaus, houses an interactive permanent exhibition titled "1000 Years of Ups and Downs." This exhibition is dedicated to the long tradition of alpine farming and its significance for Berchtesgaden National Park.

The ground floor exhibition showcases the history and development of the alpine pastures in the national park, the human impact on the pastures, and introduces traditional livestock breeds. A virtual alpine farmer tells of her life and the challenges of alpine farming. The upper floor focuses on biodiversity on the alpine pastures, including typical alpine plants, insects, and twilight animals.

The Klausbachhaus is not only an information center but also a starting point for numerous hiking tours in the national park. It also features a traditional farm garden and a "sensory garden" with a barefoot trail and sound stations.

It is the perfect place to, with a bit of luck, discover the "king of the skies". Numerous information boards provide you with exciting knowledge about the golden eagle. So if you've always wanted to learn more about the hunting strategies of the eagle or the monitoring of the Berchtesgaden National Park, you've come to the right place! In addition, the wooden loungers invite you to relax with a view of the sky.

A very nice short hike with a stop at very friendly hosts on the Ragertalm.

With the family and the furry friends in the Klausenbachtal. In places there was snow, icy or completely sodden. Unfortunately, I had to turn back at the first slight incline, because my blood pressure (since the stroke in 2016) increases immeasurably in such situations. The rest of the pack went on and I dedicated myself extensively to the golden eagle …
