Kleine Reib'n – hiking in the Berchtesgaden National Park

You start at the Hinterbrand car park. From there, follow the forest path (No. 498) towards the middle station of the Jennerbahn. Shortly before the middle station, turn left onto hiking trail 498a and follow the numerous switchbacks to the forest road. Keeping left, past the Mitterkaseralm and over the Jennersattel, you continue to the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus on the Torrener Joch.

From there, you follow a more challenging mountain path in a southeasterly direction through mountain pine fields to a steep rise. Then you continue to the "Blumengarten", a karst plateau. Over two rugged terrain steps, you finally reach the broad ridge below the Schneibstein.

The markings lead south to the Windscharte. Below the Windschartenkopf, you descend into the valley between Fagstein and Windschartenkopf. The path continues halfway between the mountain rescue hut visible from above and the Seeleinsee, to a crossroads and through the Stiergraben down to the Priesbergalm.

From there you follow the Königsweg either to the Hinterbrand car park or the middle station of the Jennerbahn.

BEST MONTHS: May to October

REQUIREMENTS: mountain boots, alpine experience, surefootedness, very good physical condition

WHAT TO EXPECT: long mountain tour with many climbs

The difficulty information on the signposts in the area corresponds to the path categories of the DAV (German Alpine Association). This tour is marked in red and is therefore considered a moderately difficult climb. The climbs are narrow and mostly steep. Short passages at risk of falling or areas secured with wire ropes must be mastered.

ARRIVAL BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Usually free with a guest card from the valley basin communities (exceptions possible).
It is best to get off at the “Hinterbrand” stop.
