Hiking

The barrier-free Wilder Kermeter nature experience area with its Wilder Weg trail is a real highlight in the Eifel National Park – and word has certainly spread!
Please note that the Wilder Kermeter is often very busy, especially on weekends, during school holidays, and generally when the weather is nice. If you prefer a quieter experience, choose a different time for your visit.

We recommend traveling by public transport. This saves you the hassle of searching for a parking space if the parking lot is overcrowded on busy days. 🚗🚗🚗

🚌 Public transport tip:
Lines 231, 814, and Mäxchen will take you to the Kermeter and stop at the "Wilder Kermeter" stop.

✨ On Sundays and public holidays (from June 15th to All Saints' Day), the KermeterShuttle (814) runs from Kall train station via "Wilder Kermeter" to the Urfttalsperre/Haftenbach stop, and in between, a shuttle service runs between the Urfttalsperre/Haftenbach and Wilder Kermeter stops. (Timetable information: www.vrs.de)
Combine your visit to the Wilder Weg with an entertaining hike down narrow paths to the Urft Dam, followed by a bus ride back to the Wilder Kermeter! 🍃

🥪☕ By the way, there's a place to stop for a break right next to the dam – a wonderful view of the Urft Dam is included for free. 😉

In front of these benches seen from the parking lot, lies the small circular route "Wilder Ketmeter". From these benches one starts to look for beautiful hikes towards Heimbach, Rursee, Urftsee or Rurberg

One of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful vantage point on the Rursee.

Great destination for young and old. Knowledge about plants and animals of the forest is conveyed in a clear way. Nice to look at through replicas of mushrooms and birds, boards and spoken tape recordings. You can even get information here in Braille. Well done.

January 8, 2026,❄️❄️zur Hirschley über den “Wilden Weg” im Kermeter❄️❄️
Today we enjoyed a lovely hike through the winter landscape in the Kermeter forest. 🥾 The fresh snow from last night was very grippy, and the ground wasn't as icy as it had been the day before yesterday.

It seems the best course of action is to play it safe for the next few days.

The "wild Kermeter" and the "Hirschleyroute" are barrier-free hiking trails in the immediate vicinity of Heimbach. Beautifully situated in the Eifel National Park. It is constantly being expanded and is particularly interesting and exciting for families with children.

What a day.
Morning coffee. In the car. No plan. Just… drive.
Past Antwerp. Towards Maastricht.
And then – why not just continue to Germany?

Great sayings and loungers: There is a lot to marvel at on the Wilder Kermeter with the “Wilde Weg” nature exploration trail. Not just for children. And also a lake view.

Great round! But first I forgot to run komoot from the parking lot 🙈. We walked the "wild way" two days ago and took our time and used the great loungers for "forest bathing". Today we walked the "wild way" backwards on the way back - not a good idea because it was a lot busier and we had to …

A wonderful tour in the wild Kermeter over footbridges and beautiful beech forest. Ideal for forest bathing. Highly recommended with children. A very high experience value.
There are enough benches and loungers on the tour.👍

After we spent 10 days walking, climbing or crawling on all fours in the southern Eifel and our vacation is over, we are starting today at home with a short hike in the Rureifel.

The Rureifel is in the northern part of the West Eifel in the Düren district, Euskirchen district and the Aachen city region.
