Hiking
This hike requires good fitness and strong shoelaces, but is rewarded with the full diversity of the national park and lonely sections of the path.
Starting point: Dreiborn car park red deer viewing gallery
Highlights along the way:
- Red deer viewing gallery: With a little patience, you can observe red deer - this is possible at any time of year, but especially during the rutting season from October to November. 🦌
- The Dreiborn plateau: Here you can observe and hear rare bird species such as the red kite, wryneck or Orphean warbler. Some parts of the plateau are gradually becoming overgrown with bushes before a new forest emerges here in a few decades. Other parts of the plateau are mown late in the year or grazed by sheep as part of contractual nature conservation so that open grasslands are also preserved. It is the varied mosaic of biotopes that makes the Dreiborn plateau such a valuable habitat for numerous species. 🐦
- Wollseifen deserted village: The once very lively and large village of Wollseifen had to be evacuated by its residents when the military training area was built after the Second World War and became the backdrop for house-to-house combat exercises until 2005. In the old school building there is a very interesting exhibition on the village's eventful history. 🏫
- Healing Stone House: Even the Romans valued the high mineral content of the water at the healing stone spring in the Sauerbach valley. Today, pipes bring the healing stone water to Einruhr to the freely accessible backyard of the healing stone house, where the iron-tasting water can be tasted around the clock. 🚰
- Creation Trail: On narrow paths, this particularly quiet part of the national park can be enjoyed with all the senses. Boards with secular and religious quotes invite you to reflect. 💭
- XXL swinging bench: The oversized bench built in 2024 is a particularly good place to enjoy the panoramic view over the plateau. How about a picnic on this XXL bench? 🧺
❗ A safety tip: Be careful on the Dreiborn plateau, as it was used as the "Vogelsang military training area" until the end of 2005. Always stay on the marked paths, as old munitions and unexploded bombs may be lying off them.

For me, the rather large number of later asphalt/wide forest and farm roads and (at least for me) partly incorrect GPS data (after Einruhr) were a downer for me. I don’t want to …
