Hiking

A wonderful walk for the whole family: This nearly five-kilometer-long tour awaits you with magnificent views, romantic vineyards, and shady forests. There's hardly any elevation gain to overcome, but the view from the Westerberg is still fantastic. The tour begins at the Bismarck Tower. To get in the mood, you can climb up to the viewing platform and let your gaze wander far across the countryside.

The next beautiful viewpoint is not far away. From the GAGA mountain hut, you'll enjoy a wonderful panorama over the Gau-Algesheim Laurenziberg and further to the Binger Loch. Afterwards, you'll hike through the forest, which is especially soothing on a hot summer day. The forest opens up again and again, offering you uninterrupted views of the Rhenish-Hessian landscape that makes the region around Ingelheim so special. Rest benches along the trail are perfect for enjoying the view.

Back at the Bismarck Tower, you can either make yourself comfortable in one of the two restaurants or visit the big cats in the neighboring Tiger Garden.

Bismarck Tower, Ingelheim am Rhein

Highlight • Monument

This Bismarck tower has stood on the striking Westerberg since 1912. First the steep mountain is conquered and then the stairs inside the tower to get to the viewing platform. But the effort is worth it, because the view of the knee of the Rhine, the Taunus and the surrounding hill country of Rheinhessen is unique. After the exertion you can rest and refresh yourself in the adjoining beer garden.

The refuge got its name GAGA from the Avenarius brothers from Gau-Algesheim, who founded a chemical factory in the village in 1869. The hut is located on Richardshöhe, a striking vantage point on the western slope of the Westerberg with a view of the Rhine and Nahe.

April 29, 2023, Waldblick Runde – Wanderungen rund um Ingelheim am Rhein

Admittedly not an official Hiwweltour. I added the round anyway, it's sort of the Bismarck Tower Hiwweltour for lazy runners.

A very tranquil hike with minimal elevation gain and beautiful views. A good place to stop for coffee and cake at the end. There's also a restaurant at the Bismarck Tower! The hike can also be done on sunny days, as the trail is mostly wooded.
