Mountain biking

Five mountains, six cable cars, almost 5,000 meters downhill exclusively on trails and only 200 meters in altitude to be climbed on your own: these are the key data of the legendary BIG-5 Bike Challenge. This XXL round promises you and your enduro or all-mountain bike an epic day. In addition to concentrated trail fun, this tour also gives you a great overview of the mountains between Saalbach Hinterglemm and Leogang. You can do this adventure with a special BIG-5 ticket, but note that only one ride per cable car is included.

The tour, for which you should plan the whole day, starts with the gondola ride to the Kohlmais summit. Take a look around and enjoy the great all-round view before you get ready for the trail. In front of you are the Panorama Trail and Root Trail, which lead quite flat along the contour line towards Schönleitenhaus. Now you drop into the flowing Asitz-Trail, which brings you to the mountain station of the Asitzbahn. Here you are spoiled for choice as to which trail to take down to Leogang. You can't go wrong with the Steinberg-Line if you like it flowy. From the middle station, the varied Hangman II route continues.

With the Steinbergbahn you comfortably overcome the altitude difference and now follow the already known section with the Asitz and Wurzel Trail back towards the Kohlmais summit. Here you can fine-tune your riding technique on the uphill and over roots. Now the Panorama Trail is waiting for you with its perfect banked curves and jumps. From the middle station you switch to the fast Monti-Trail down to Saalbach and then roll straight on to the Schattberg X-Press, which will take you up 1,000 meters again.

At the Schattberg-Ostgipfel you are offered a panorama at its best. Take your time here, put on the protectors and then it's off to the fun X-Line that takes you to the Schattberg Sprinter. A few years ago there was always a competition up here to the Schattberg-Westgipfel to see who could manage the extremely steep section in the saddle. Today the lift takes you very relaxed to the west summit and thus to the entrance of the probably most famous Saalbacher trail, the Hacklberg trail. The trail is so popular for a reason and is just super easy to ride. Halfway through the trail, you can take a break in the Hacklberger Alm and relax with a cool drink and fine home-style cooking.

You master the next 700 meters on the second part of the Hacklberg Trail and then continue on the Buchegg Trail. The next gondola is waiting for you right next to the end of the trail. With the Zwölferkogelbahn you go to the middle station, where the entrance of the varied Z-Line is. After a short ride you will reach the Reiterkogelbahn, which will take you to 1,500 meters and where you can choose between Blue and Pro Line. Back in the valley, the best thing to do is to look for a cozy guest garden and review what you have experienced over a glass of your choice.

Root Trail on the BIG-5 Challenge

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Root Trail leads toward Leogang and is part of the BIG 5 Challenge. Technically, the trail is challenging, and progress becomes more difficult and strenuous in wet or rainy conditions!

Asitz Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Asitz Trail is the perfect connection for enduro riders & freeriders from Leogang to Saalbach Hinterglemm and back again (Attention, oncoming traffic!). Coming from Leogang, the forest clears on the last section of the trail and the view of the Leogang Mountains is simply phenomenal (photo spot). The trail is also part of the "Challenge - Bike your limit!".

Hacklberg Trail

Highlight • Trail

Starting directly next to the mountain station of the Westgipfelbahn, the natural panorama trail leads flowingly down a long grassy ridge towards Hacklbergeralm and offers primarily speed sections, some berms, small jumps, and numerous rollers that repeatedly invite you to get some airtime. Thanks to the gentle gradient, it offers riding fun for beginners and pros alike.

Z-Line at Zwölferkogel

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

Super nice! Between flowy and a bit rough (stones/roots) everything is included. Some wooden elements and two nice wallrides. Overall, however, easy to master, even for non-pros.

A very flowing and easy singletrack on the Reiterkogel, which is also very suitable for beginners. With many easy berms, flat Northshore elements, rollers and wide tables – which can also simply be rolled over – the varied descent offers great fun and beautiful views into the Hintere Glemmtal.
