This tour is all about beautiful views and beneficial refreshments. And by that we don't (only) mean the delicious Baden wines that are waiting for you as a little temptation on the way in the various wine towns. You'd better save that for after the tour. But you can still refresh yourself on the way: The route leads you through the depths of the Black Forest past many mineral springs - and a test sip is highly recommended from a sporting point of view.
It starts in Kniebis, or at the pass of the same name. From here you first drive rapidly downhill to Oppenau. It is quite possible that some sweaty racing cyclists will meet you: The Oppenauer Steige is a popular sporting challenge in the area. Through beautiful Baden wine towns, the route continues relatively flat via Offenburg to Biberach. Shortly afterwards you will reach Zell am Harmersbach, where you can take a break. There you can look at an old Black Forest house and find out about the old, traditional Black Forest rafting culture. Or you just take a rest to be ready for the much more demanding part of the tour that now follows.
The last part is tough and comes up with three crisp climbs. The first takes you to the Lochberg, which has a rather rustic reward with its snack bar. In Bad Peterstal you can refill your bottles at a mineral spring and look forward to the next ascent that leads up to the Freiersbacher Tor. One more descent, then the grand finale begins: the long driveway on a road with little traffic back to Kniebis. The goal is right at the Kniebishütte, where you absolutely deserve your glass of wine as a reward!
