Beautiful forest passages, classic half-timbered architecture and wide distant views: The Schwedensteig has many facets. In addition, there are wide meadows, a babbling brook and exciting rock formations. No wonder the premium trail was awarded the German Hiking Seal.

It starts for you at the SGV hiking portal in the center of Westfeld – right next to the St. Blasius Church. On this hike, you are on the old Heidenstraße. This historic path ran between Leipzig and Cologne, passing through the Sauerland. The Schwedenschanzen (old border rampart) and the Schwedenhütte are also located along the route.

In addition to history, nature is also the focus of this tour, of course. For example, you hike through the Rehhecke nature reserve with its completely original heath landscape.

Very original heath landscape. Great forests, steep ascents on narrow sand and rock paths. Up to 60-year-old benches, wonderful views into the vastness of the Sauerland. Brilliant colours throughout spring and summer, from the bright yellow broom to the juicy dark blue forest berries.
