Fancy some altitude gain and great panoramic views? Then this tour is just right for you. The main character is the Kahle Asten. It bears the nickname Father of the Sauerland Mountains. The start and end of the route is the Dorfpark in Schmallenberg-Westfeld.

First, you will hike relaxed through the Schwarzes Siepen nature reserve. But the first altitude meters will not keep you waiting too long. First, you will head for the Hintersten Hohen Knochen and will already be on the ascent to the Kahlen Asten.

At 841 meters, the Kahle Asten is the second highest mountain in the Sauerland. Once at the top, you can enjoy the fantastic panoramic view. On your way back, you will pass the Lenne spring and numerous panorama stops downhill.

You can really refresh yourself in summer at the Lennequelle. The two cuboids cleverly hide the drainage pipe from which the spring water comes.

A great tour. Very varied. Narrow, narrow hiking trails - wide hiking trails - forest, fields, heath, valleys, heights - wide view, sometimes only 20 cm of view for all the bushes😁. Wild animals and not so wild. Just lovely. Fairly good signage. Except for some hustle and bustle on the Kahler Asten, lonely and quiet. Lots of benches and …

Today we went back to the Sauerland winter wonderland.
It started again from Westfeld, this time via the "Rothaarspur Kahler Asten Steig" 🤩
Crunchy climbs, great views, lots of snow and sunshine every now and then - perfect 👍🏻
Thanks to our new Grödel we were quite slip-proof and sure-footed on the way, only on the Kahler Asten the wind …

From narrow to medium to wide, the most diverse paths lead to the "roof of the Sauerland", the Kahler Asten. The altitude difference is relatively moderate on the route. In our opinion, there are no particularly long/steep ascents or descents. Mostly well marked, but now and then you have to be careful or the markings are missing. A map or …

A question in advance: why does komoot show significantly less "time in motion" for all my tours than Garmin? Komoot here 3.8, in Garmin 4.5. It's annoying and I always feel like the lamest crutch...

I treated myself to a weekend in the Sauerland. Mainly to hike the Kahlen-Asten-Steig, which had been on my list for so long.

Hike from Westfeld up to the "Kahler Asten", the father of the Sauerland mountains, and enjoy the wonderful view there before hiking back to Westfeld.

You hike from Westfeld through the “Schwarzes Siepen” nature reserve, over the “Hintersten Hohen Beine” to the “Kahler Asten”, the second highest mountain in the Sauerland. Enjoy the beautiful view there before you hike back …

The German Hiking Institute says: "A varied tour with successful dramaturgy on the most famous of the Sauerland mountains. As a reward for the elevation gain, fantastic views, attractive forests, extensive high heath areas and streams along lovely meadow valleys await you.
