A really great but also very strenuous tour, very good paths and very important☝🏻 maybe get a card to snap off ...
A beautiful circular route. Good to hike and well signposted 🥾🙂👍
With the viaduct hiking trail, I took the opportunity to cover 30 km in one day. So that I am not completely alone in this endeavor, hiking friends @Lutz Rohne and @Michael accompany me on this well-marked circular route. From the parking lot in Altenbeken, we saw the historic steam locomotive of the 044 series right at the beginning, which has conquered the mountain routes over Altenbeken and the Egge many times. The 2,000 hp steam locomotive 044-389-5 was built by Hentschel & Sohn GmbH in Kassel and put into service on March 6, 1941. On December 6, 1976, the locomotive was used for the last time to pull the Santa Claus train at Altenbeken station. The well-signposted viaduct hiking trail led us along the Mühlengraben and up a staircase. We then went under a railway bridge and had a wonderful view of the Altenbeken viaduct from the meadow path. With an impressive length of 482 meters, a height of 35 meters and 24 arches that are illuminated in the dark, the viaduct is considered the largest sand-lime brick bridge in Europe. The blue sign with the golden viaduct led us along meadow paths past beautiful benches, one of which was designed in the shape of this arched bridge. Another beautiful rest area with a table at the side of the path was only used briefly by us for a drink break, because the weather gods had mercy and left us a bright blue sky with small white clouds. We hiked along beautiful forest paths, alternating between forest and meadows, past a memorial stone that commemorates the construction of the railway with the 1640 meter long Rehberg tunnel. This tunnel also laid the foundation stone for the Altenbeken railway junction. At the side of the path I noticed a log with a pair of pliers. On this circular route, hikers have the opportunity to stamp their punch card from the Altenbeken tourist information center at five stations and then grab a hiking pin and certificate. (Unfortunately we missed this, but the path can be hiked a second time!) 🙄. After we hiked a bit through Altenbeken again, we saw the Bollerborn Cross, which was erected to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the introduction of Christianity in Westphalia and was listed as a historical monument in 1986. We left Altenbeken and hiked along forest paths towards Buke, a village at the foot of the Egge Mountains. On the forest path we used a bench by the tracks as a resting place in the hope that a train would rush past us, but as "trainspotter rookies" we had no luck that day. After we had passed the second stamp point, the viaduct hiking trail led us past the "Am Spring" pond complex. The street of the same name was named after the springs on the eastern edge of the town and for many centuries the crystal clear water served people's needs. Whether as delicious drinking water or for "big laundry". Even farmers cleaned their tools and potato sacks in the running water. We crossed a railway bridge again and passed a flowering meadow where foxgloves were spreading. As we walked through the forest, we came to a beautiful rest area, Heinrich Mertens Platz with the "Buker Pilz". The viaduct hiking trail led us over asphalt paths to Buke station with its goods shed. The construction of the Paderborn - Warburg - Kassel railway made Buke an important transport hub. On July 21, 1853, the first train of the Westphalian Railway ran over the initially single-track line from Warburg to Altenbeken, stopping in Buke. This was followed by a ceremonial opening of the station by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. But over time, the railway junction lost more and more importance and the reception building has been in private hands since 1998, but is maintained by the family who live there and is a listed building. We walked through Buke and walked past historical sites, the third stamp station and a Jesus cross. In Buke our paths parted. Hiking friend @Michael and I continued on the Viaduct hiking trail, while hiking friend @Lutz Rohne took the direct route to Altenbeken. The Viaduct hiking trail led us down beautiful meadow paths and stairs past green meadows and the boundary stone of the county "Enenhus-Beken". Near the 4th stamp station we saw a comfortable forest sofa, which we used for a short break. After the short rest we walked past the second viaduct, went through a tunnel and a bridge took us over the Beke. A narrow path leads us to the Kobbennacken and over meadow paths we reach the 5th stamp station. Over the "Melkepatt", a narrow, rustic climb, we reach meadow paths through the beautiful landscape of the Paderborn region. On
After the exciting and fun tour yesterday, there was a relaxed hiking tour for me today - if you can talk about relaxed with purple thighs... I felt each of the 38660 steps intensively😅🤣 I really liked the tour itself: narrow paths through forest and fields, great views and sunshine - perfect Sunday program 🤩 Anyone who had been prepared would have printed out a stamp card beforehand and gone on a stamp or punch hunt 😉 Have a nice evening 🍀🙋🏻♀️

My first "thirties". Despite some asphalt stretches, the viaduct path is beautifully laid out and very varied. It is a shame that the Komoot kilometers obviously do not fit exactly, because the viaduct path with the detour to Altenbeken is definitely a 30 and 30.3 km.
Today I did the viaduct hiking trail in Altenbeken, Paderborn with about 10 people. The weather was wonderful and the group was great! It took between 7:30 and 8 hours, komoot recorded it incorrectly. But it was the first time with an offline map and it went really well! I can only recommend this tour! 👍🏻
Grandiose hiking trail - since 2009 rightly “Quality Trail Wanderable Germany”, with alternating landscapes and wonderful distant views. The path is well signposted in both directions and there is also a stamped card that can be validated at five stations along the way. For a complete hike, there is a certificate with a hiking pin.
