Tour des Monts d'Ain – Gravel Route 17 Red

This circuit, like the other routes in the Jurassic Vélo Tours network, pays homage to water, due to the lakes and ponds that dot the route. Omnipresent, water accompanies athletes throughout the route and reveals another facet of the Ain department. This route is also a physical challenge, with nearly a third of the paths being gravel and a significant elevation gain.

Starting from Nantua, the first few kilometers are however relaxed, following the town lake before heading into the Oignin and Doye valley. It is only at Condamine that the path climbs onto largely unpaved terrain through the Meyriat forest. The slope is steepest up to the Marron ponds, then the ascent continues more gently to the Col de Colliard and even a little beyond.

The rest requires less effort, downhill and almost always on asphalt. The Peney viewpoint offers a beautiful view of the Nantua lake, where the loop ends. However, be mindful of road traffic and the tunnel passage, which can pose a risk. Back in town, all that remains is to enjoy the center and the lakeside. Swimming is permitted in designated areas.
