Cycling

This circular tour is ideal if you like varied landscapes and relaxed cycling. Quiet paths through water landscapes, forests, heathland, and open geest areas await you. Wide views, quiet passages, and culturally shaped village centers alternate with natural sections and small villages.

Starting from Vrees, a pretty gold village with a rural character, the route first leads you through fields and along natural waters towards the Thülsfelder Talsperre reservoir. This scenic highlight impresses with moors, heathlands, and pine forests. The Dwergter Sand reveals open dune and heath landscapes with a Nordic character, before Dwergte and Molbergen follow with their village tranquility and regional flair.

Further on, Lindern with its developed cultural landscape and Werlte with its lively village center and Emsland charm characterize the tour. The Mittelradde river accompanies you on attractive sections, while Rasdorf once again conveys rural serenity before the circuit closes back in Vrees. The mix of water, forest, and wide meadows repeatedly provides new impressions – just the thing if you want to clear your head.

Vrees is easily accessible by car, parking facilities are available. Places along the route and areas near the reservoir are suitable for breaks. Nevertheless, take enough water and some provisions with you. Wind and weather protection is worthwhile, as the wind can be surprisingly lively in the open landscapes.

Teufelssteine Molbergen

Highlight • Historical Site

The Teufelssteine really blew me away. I'm always thrilled when I see these mega interesting megalithic tombs and always wonder how people managed it back then without cranes and hydraulics.

Thülsfelder Talsperre

Highlight • Lake

The Thülsfelder Talsperre is particularly worthwhile because of the well-developed circular path directly on the water. If you want more distance, you can combine the route with paths through the surrounding forest and moorland landscape. Particularly pleasant: it is often quieter on the paths in the early morning or during the week.

The heathlands and moors at the Thülsfelder Talsperre reservoir are crisscrossed by varied paths through open heath landscapes, quiet moorland areas, and shady forest sections. And every now and then you'll see one of the old, thatched sheepfolds – a beautiful photo opportunity.

Kreutzmann's Mill

Highlight • Monument

In the 1990s the mill was restored to its original 1881 condition. You can see the mill in action every Saturday from April to October from 9am to 11am. Then you can also visit them.

You can find more information at heimatverein-werlte.de/kreutzmanns_muehle.htm.
