Wildbach (Wild Water) Loop

You hike through the wild Teichschlucht gorge and up a partially steep hiking trail to the Hintereckhütte. It starts at the parking lot at the bridge over the Wilde Gutach near the Gasthaus Engel in Obersimonswald. You follow the Wilde Gutach upstream; behind the historic Elektrizitätswerk Obertal power plant building, the valley narrows and the path moves away from the stream.

Then you reach the entrance to the Teichschlucht gorge. Between moss-covered rocks, scree, and meter-high boulders, you climb steadily uphill while the Teichbach stream rushes down into the valley over small waterfalls. Under a large boulder, the path branches off towards the Hintereckhütte. The last few meters of altitude are challenging, and the sayings at every turn ("So häsch g’schwitzt?" - "Have you sweated like this?") are probably meant to be motivating. Once at the top, you can treat yourself to a well-deserved snack and enjoy the magnificent view over the Simonswäldertal valley.

The way back leads you via the Wildsauweg trail to the Spitzen Stein viewpoint. This is followed by a steep, stony descent towards Saulache, which requires caution (especially when wet). Finally, you reach the Kilpenbachtal valley and hike back to the starting point on a gently sloping section.
