I started from Punta Sabbioni, near Forte Treporti, a historic military work built between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to control access to the Venice lagoon. Immersed in the lagoon landscape, its watchtowers and concrete structures tell the story of the Great War. Cycle along the Via dei Forti museum circuit and reach the majestic Batteria Amalfi, built between 1915 and 1917 and named after the cruiser Amalfi, which sank off Venice.

Continue towards the Batteria V. Pisani, now transformed into a museum where exhibitions, historical finds and photographs immerse you in the military and civil life of the time. Each room tells a piece of history that links Cavallino Treporti to the Great War. The itinerary continues, touching other fortifications such as Batteria Radaelli and Batteria San Marco, testimonies of a complex defensive system that protected Venice.

Close the loop with a gaze full of history, where each fortification is a piece of an open-air museum that combines memory, nature and lagoon in a unique experience.

Treporti Battery Fort

Highlight • Historical Site

The Treporti Fort Battery is a historic coastal military structure that was part of the Venetian lagoon's defense system, built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries to control access from the sea and the Punta Sabbioni harbor entrance. Today, it is part of a cycling and nature trail along the "Via dei Forti," where the old concrete structures, watchtowers, and green spaces create an evocative setting that combines memories of the Great War with the lagoon landscape.

Batteria Amalfi

Highlight • Historical Site

The Amalfi Battery takes its name from the cruiser that sank off the coast of Venice in July 1915, and was built between 1915 and 1917 to defend the lagoon city.

It remained operational until April 1945 and is now part of the "Via dei Forti" (Forts Route) of Cavallino-Treporti, a themed itinerary that connects the military fortifications built between 1845 and 1917.

Forte Batteria Vettor Pisani

Highlight • Historical Site

The battery was built between 1909 and 1912 and was fully operational at the beginning of the First World War. It was connected to the other batteries and military installations by a narrow-gauge railway - Decauville. It was equipped with howitzers, the range and firing range of which was limited, and therefore could not be used on land on the lower Piave. During the Second World War it was equipped with an anti-aircraft function and in the post-war period the Pisani battery was inhabited by families of the civilian population until a few decades ago. It was named in honor of the Venetian admiral who defeated the Genoese in the War of Chioggia in 1380.
