Hiking

The Mount Dora Lighthouse Loop offers a delightful, easy walk along the shores of Lake Dora, perfect for a quick escape. You'll stroll through the lush greenery of Grantham Pointe Park, enjoying continuous lakefront views and the refreshing atmosphere. The highlight is undoubtedly the iconic Mount Dora Lighthouse, a charming and unique inland freshwater landmark that stands proudly by the water. This 0.6-mile (1.0 km) loop with a minimal 31 feet (9 metres) of elevation gain is an easy hike that takes only about 15 minutes, making it accessible for everyone.

To experience this scenic route, head to Grantham Pointe Park, also known as Lighthouse Park, located on Tremain Street across from Gilbert Park. Parking is typically available nearby, making trailhead access simple. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely visit, especially if you're hoping to catch a beautiful sunset over Lake Dora, which paints the sky in vibrant colors.

What makes this trail truly special is its centerpiece: the Mount Dora Lighthouse. Built in 1988, it's not just a pretty sight; it's Florida's only inland freshwater lighthouse, originally constructed to aid boaters on Lake Dora. Despite its modest 35-foot height, its distinctive red and white brick and stucco design makes it a beloved local landmark and a fantastic photo opportunity, embodying the charm of the "Port of Mount Dora."
