Hiking

The More Mesa Trail offers a delightful journey through coastal bluff-top grasslands and shaded oak woodlands, providing expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands. You'll find a generally flat path, making it an easy 2.7-mile (4.3 km) hike with just 153 feet (47 metres) of elevation gain, perfect for a leisurely outing.

This trail is easily accessible and entirely free, requiring no permits. While the route is mostly flat, reaching the pristine More Mesa Beach involves a steep descent. Plan for about 1 hour and 8 minutes of hiking, and consider visiting in spring when wildflowers bloom, though be prepared for muddy sections after rain.

More Mesa is a significant undeveloped open space in Santa Barbara County, renowned for its abundant bird life, including sixteen species of raptors. It also boasts one of the largest sandy beaches on the South Coast, known for its isolation and clothing-optional status further west.

More Mesa Nude Beach

Highlight • Beach

As the name suggests, this is a nude beach... sort of. Technically county laws prohibit nudity on the beach, but authorities tend to look the other way for this beach because of how secluded it is. You can't always count on that, though, and receiving a citation with no clothes on can be especially awkward because, hey, no pockets.

If you do decide to hit the sand in the buff, head to the right (west) once you hit the beach. That is the clothing-optional section. If you go to the left (east) side of the beach, clothing is definitely required.
