Cycling

This itinerary seems simple on paper, as Ruvo di Puglia and Corato are close together, but it quickly becomes more interesting thanks to a detour to one of the region's most beautiful cycling routes: the Apulian Aqueduct Cycle Route. Take advantage of the train to easily reach the starting point and arrange your return train from Corato. Depart Ruvo slowly and cycle through the historic center: pass the Romanesque Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and keep in mind the city's cultural significance, linked to the Jatta National Archaeological Museum and its Hellenistic history.

Leave the town and head towards the Alta Murgia National Park. Here, join the Apulian Aqueduct Cycle Route and follow it for a stretch: the surface is smooth and the scenery changes rapidly. Cross scenic bridges and pay attention as you pass over the Scoparella Forest and the Jazzo del Demonio, one of the few areas where downy oaks survive. If you love easy dirt roads, take the Jazzo section: short, compact, and very pleasant, it takes you to the heart of the cycle path.

Then continue along sheep tracks and secondary roads heading north. Traffic is light, and the landscape remains open and rural until you reach Corato. Reach the train station and end the tour with the convenience of the train, after a varied and accessible ride, perfect for discovering the Murgia at your leisure.

A handful of kilometers from Ruvo di Puglia and Corato, this bridge overlooks the Scoparella forest and the so-called jazzo del Demonio, two of the last wooded places where it is still possible to find specimens of downy oak, once much more present throughout the Apulian territory.
