Hiking

The second stage on Ornö heads south from Hässelmara via the lookout hill, Bodal, and the yellow trail towards Lättinge. At Kråkmora, you can either continue north again via Mörby Gård and Lervassa Träsk to Ornö Church, or finish your hike in Lättinge. If you’re ready for a rest, a bus operates several times a day between Lättinge, Sundby, Ornö Church, Hässelmara, and Skinnardal.

If you prefer to complete both stages on Ornö in one go, it’s best to walk clockwise around the island. The trail mostly includes the familiar yellow-and-blue SAT markings, although some sections rely on existing local route markers in other colors. Keep an eye on your map or GPS to stay on track.

Ornö offers a good range of services, including two restaurants, a bakery, a small café, and a micro-store for essentials. Accommodation is available at Sundby B&B or at Ornö Skärgårdshotell in the bay next to Lättinge. Wild camping is permitted for one or two nights, but please be respectful of locals and leave no trace.

You can travel to Hässelmara on Ornö year-round from Dalarö via the car ferry. In summer, island-hopping is easy using the Nordsydlinjen (the north–south ferry line), which follows the SAT. You can also book a taxi boat if you want to go directly to a nearby section. The stages of Ornö, Fjärdlång, and Utö link together very well.

The Stockholm Archipelago Trail (SAT) is a waymarked hiking trail that connects over 20 islands, accessible by a public ferry network. You can choose to spend a day at a time on the trail, connect nearby islands in conveniently grouped sections, or hike the SAT as a thru-hike for the full experience. View from Telegrafberget

Highlight • Viewpoint

Telegrafberget is the island’s highest point at around 60 metres (197 ft) and a notable viewpoint. An optical telegraph station once stood here in the 1800s, today there’s an observation tower with great views over the archipelago.

Gråberget Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Gråberget (“the grey hill/rock”) is quite a common name in Sweden. Here on Ornö, you'll find a small but distinct hill with great views across the western shores.

Ornö Church Cove

Highlight • Structure

Ornö Kyrkviken (literally "The Church Cove") is a pretty little guest harbour in a sheltered bay. There's a Deli and pizza restaurant, bar & bistro and cafe very close by - perfect for relaxing and watching the boating activity on the water.
